SIXTH FORM LIFE

Sixth Form life is quite different from life as a student up to Year 11 because as Sixth Formers students are treated more as an adult and are expected to manage their own time and take greater responsibility for their learning. This gives them the opportunity to learn new skills that they might need at university or in the workplace.

One of the other features of Sixth Form life is meeting new people and making new friends because Sixth Forms take students from other schools, and as a student within our partnership students also have the opportunity to undertake some of their studies at more than one of our partner schools.

Each school, through its own unique Post-16 enrichment programme, provide students with the opportunity to enhance and develop a wide range of skills. These can either be linked to a student's existing studies, or they may be an area of study that the student is taking part in for the first time.

The aim of the various enrichment programmes on offer is to help foster or develop skills and talents beyond the classroom that students have a passion or interest in, that directly relate to skills required in real world situations.

Activities that are available include:

  • Sports Leadership
  • Debating Society
  • Reading groups
  • Choir
  • Orchestra
  • Dragons’ Apprentice
  • Young Enterprise
  • Sporting clubs

There is also the opportunity to develop valuable life skills including sports leadership, self-defence and financial awareness. One popular choice is the Duke of Edinburgh awards programme which provides students with incredible experiences and life changing opportunities. We also offer an exciting worldwide expedition.

Students also take part in a range of offsite activities that include visiting art galleries, taking part in sport at a local facility or watching a theatre performance.

In addition to these activities the close partnership between the ALP schools has led to further opportunities in the form of a guest speaker programme, sporting fixtures, music ensembles, an arts award and other leadership opportunities.
