Why Science at Samuel Ryder Academy?

The AQA specification is designed to be an engaging and effective introduction to psychology for students.  The course allows you to explore the human mind and behaviour and investigate questions such as ‘Why did the atrocities in the holocaust happen? How important is our relationship with our parents? Why might a child be aggressive?’ You will also learn about mental health disorders such as addiction and schizophrenia.  Students who engage with the subject gain more than just a grade; they develop a deeper understanding of themselves and those around them.

Psychology is an enriching, yet challenging subject for students. The course is delivered by an experienced psychology teacher with a passion for the subject and an enthusiasm for learning. The lessons are designed to provide opportunities for you to plan and carry out your own psychological research.  You will be encouraged to take part in activities that involve working with the wider school community, allowing you to develop your teamwork, communication and presentation skills.

Expectations of students

For most, this will be a brand new subject and students must be prepared to learn difficult and abstract concepts from the very beginning.  Engaging in wider reading in addition to completing the set homework is essential to meet the challenges of the course.  Students will be expected to fully participate in lessons, asking questions, making positive contributions and completing work to the highest standard.
